Christmas Parade Party

Well, I feel super guilty since I haven't blogged here in forever, but it is time for my return :) Last night, I had a Christmas Parade Party! Living on Main Street gives me a primo view of the parade, and I have people over to enjoy it with me. Here are some Pinterest finds that made our party food list.

I love appetizers! Can you see why I've probably gained 10 pounds over night?? I've got some recipes to post soon, so stay tuned :) Glad to be back!

Cincy :)

This weekend, my family went to Cincinnati to watch Rob play baseball. It was lots of fun! I got there Thursday night (later than planned, because I left my damn suitcase in Danville and had to turn around) and Mom, Rob, and I went to eat. After we got back to the hotel, I talked Mom into a cocktail in the lobby. O...M...G... BEST COSMOS EVER! By the way, the lobby looked like this:

And it was a Holiday Inn!!! Seriously, the nicest one I've been ever. See why we wanted to drink cocktails here?
The next day we got up, drove to the Waffle House, and had one of my all time favorite breakfasts...the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Toaster with hashbrowns scattered, smothered, and covered. Perfect way to start the day! We came back to the hotel, dropped off Rob, then proceeded to get lost on the way to a Joseph-Beth. We ended up driving around (while laughing) before returning to get Rob and head to a ball game 30 minutes away. We watched the ball game and then Rob headed out to a Cincinnati Reds game while Mom and I hit up Newport on the Levee.
While at NOTL, we were tailed by a cop, deafened by some really loud diners, entertained by several interesting characters, and we attended the Sausage Festival. Yes, a sausage fest. Please check out @rob_caud on Instagram if you don't believe me. We also enjoyed this beautiful view:

I love looking at Cincy from the Kentucky side. Just beautiful.
The next day, it was time for more baseball. I love to watch Rob play, but I have to say I'm a little bored when he's in right field. It just isn't an action-packed area (like the mound or short). Post-ball game, we headed to Skyline Chili (AHHHH!!! If you don't know about Skyline, look it up immediately) and then on to...the zoo!!! I was so excited!!! Mom was glad she went, too, once we got there and saw these dolls:

By the time we got back to the hotel, Dad and Bru had arrived! It was time for Rob to venture out to another ball game, but we played hooky since he wasn't playing. It was off to dinner at The Pub (good) and a visit to Joseph Beth (awesome). We went back to the hotel for more Cosmos (yes) and an adventure that I will write about later this week. Believe me, it deserves it's own post (congrats, Tracy and Amy!).

We tried to watch more baseball today, but it was rained out. Baby brother's shoulder is hurting, so that was OK with me :-) I got home about 5 pm to see this sweet face:
Who wouldn't be happy to get home to him? :-)

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th to my two readers ;-) Hope you are having a fab fourth!
I made Cake Batter Dip and a little experimental concoction to take over to a cook out this evening. The Cake Batter Dip is soooo delicious! Plus, it only has about 30 fat grams in the whole dip, which would feed at least 20 people. If I had made it with Cool Whip Free, it would only have about 15 grams of fat! I found the recipe via Pinterest, but check the link out right here at Lee, Me, and the Girls.

Camp Hope

For the past few years, I've directed a camp for adults with disabilities. This year, like every year, was very rewarding! While I love doing camp, I'm always worn out after it is over! It will be nice to have some down time this week. Here's a photo of one group of campers. They are awesome!

For those of you who don't know, that's the Great American Brass Band Festival. Most residents would say that it is the best weekend to live in Danville. There is fun, amazing brass music, dancing, fattening food, and {now} lots of fun cocktails! This year, we had a new event that Friday night called Bayou and Brass. Here's a picture of some of the Main Street fun...

Sorry, I know it's blurry. But this was a fantastic turn out for our small community! People as far as the picture can see :-) I love being a Downtown Diva ;-)

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of helping out with the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society's PetSmart partnership, and it was so much fun!

Marie...I think (or maybe that's Blaze) :-)

Precious puppies, wild kittens, and even some napping adult cats were up for adoption. Tons of people stopped by to play with and pet the animals, and 5 were adopted out that day! PetSmart accounts for 50% of DBCHS's adoptions, so the program is obviously really important to the animals. Between PetSmart and the open house at the shelter this weekend, SIXTEEN pets were adopted out in just TWO days! That's big...just ask Marie (or Blaze).

Wreath and Reinvention!

I haven't blogged in forever...I am awful! Fortunately, with summer comes more free time for me, so I WILL be updating much more often! I wanted to post my lastest and (possibly) greatest craft which I found on Pinterest...where else?! I followed the tutorial at Life With 4 Boys to figure out how to make this cute yarn wreath, and just changed the colors and embellishments to suit my color choices. I am getting ready to hang it up and I can't wait to see it on my front door! Isn't it cute?!

Now, with the more frequent posting I am thinking of changing it up around here. After a recommendation from one of my only two followers :-) I may be doing shorter, more frequent posts. I do think I'll still be bragging about my crafts and some recipes on here to anyone that will listen, though! :) Mom and Ju, thanks for sticking with me! ;-)

Recently I've begun working every other Saturday at a little gift shop here in dear ole Danville called Maple Tree Gallery. An artist there has been making and selling these super cute coasters, so I just had to try to make a batch myself!
Basically, you Mod Podge 1/4 of a cocktail napkin on to a 4x4 tile (36 cents from Lowe's!), give it a couple of coats of Mod Podge on the top, then spray it with clear acrylic sealer and stick some felt or cork on the bottom. Even for a craft-challenged person like me, it was no big deal. Here is one set sitting on a Lowe's bag to dry. Forgive the messy table :)

Here's a set when they are finished. Forgive the messy table again!

If only I had a good could see how cute they really are! I'm sure tons of other people out there in Blog Land are making these, too, so be sure to look around for some real tutorials. These are super easy, cheap, and everyone loves them! Let me know if you make a set...I always love some inspiration :)

New blogs I'm in love with

I know that I've been the worst blogger every lately! My mom (who I believe is my one and only follower) reminded me of that yesterday...sorry, Mom! I don't have anything super interesting to post...except that I have a SNOW DAY today, which is fantastic. I thought I'd share a few blogs that I follow and adore so that when I'm not posting, you'll have someone else to blog stalk (MOM). If I'm gone and you're missing me too much, hop on over to my teaching blog, Special Speckled Eggs, which I tend to update more frequently. In the meantime, here are bloggers I *love*....
Lexi at Mostly True Stuff -- Lexi has a daughter with Down Syndrome and a son with Autism, plus two more neuro-typical kiddos. She is funny, honest, and totally fantastic.
Sock It Mama -- I found this lovely mama through a post related to Mercer County's "boy in a bag" issue. She has the same view I do and she's another honest autism mom.
Ree at The Pioneer Woman -- She cooks, she takes pictures, she home-schools, she writes cookbooks and novels...I'm envious and I adore her.
Kevin at Closet Cooking -- This dude is the king of grilled cheese sandwiches. He's got tons of other recipes, too, but I'm partial to a good ole grilled cheese.
Mique (pronounced like Disney's famous mouse) at Thirty Handmade Days -- Another autism person! She has great ideas for advocacy and great ideas for everything else, too!
OK Mama, will that keep you busy? :-) Stay warm out there!
